Oskarnacht!

Oskarnacht!

Don't usually watch these things anymore, but last nite, there were others interested in watching and I hung around too for part of the show.

Turned out to be an interesting night. For high-tempered James Cameron to be beaten out by his ex-wife's movie, and for the highest grossing film of all time to be slighted in the major categories, well, put it this way, I wouldn't want to be a guest at Cameron's post-awards party.

All the selections I heard were interesting. And good acceptance speeches, too. Who was the guy who talked about his parents being supportive when as a kid he started fooling around with a hme movie camera?

Actually, they ought to forget about those silly movie awards and just give out awards for best dressed woman attending, best lipstick, best hair style, most dapper man, etc.

I pick Katherine Bigelow for best dress, Sandra Bullock for best body under the dress. Alec Baldwin for most sophisticated man, best gay male Pedro Almodovar, best gay female....

My significant other had this to say about the morning after discussions on TV: "Who the hell cares what lipstick so and so was wearing! A news program should be about news, not crap like dresses and hairstyles and cosmetics. Who @#$%^& cares?"

Opinons, anyone?

I watched too, from beginning to end. My teenage boys also liked Sandra Bullock-they said she should definitely win-even though they never saw any of the movies from the best actress category. lol
I like seeing what everyone wears, I liked Demi Moore's dress. Colin Firth, George Clooney and Jeff Bridges all looked hot in my book.
Remeber when James Cameron won for Titanic? He brought his then wife, Linda Hamilton, to the Oscars with him that year....he is now married to Suzy Amis, an actress in the movie Titanic. I think he's been married 5 times.
Sandr Bullock's speech was good-And Jeff Bridges.
I love Steve Martin and Ben Stiller. No one else could have pulled off what Ben Stiller did

Didn't watch it, but I heard that Sandra Bullock (def hawt) won Worst Actress as well as Best Actress.
"(Earth) has a problem, which is: most of the people living on it are unhappy pretty much of the time. Many solutions are suggested for this problem, but most of these are largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole the small green pieces of paper aren't unhappy."

She's an actress too?

Bit of a disclaimer here. I have not seen any of the movies mentioned at the Academy Awards ceremony. That ought not to disqualify me from talking about the movies or even writing reviews of them, should it? I've written good reviews of movies I never saw, to my taste at least.

Anyway, should Avatar have won Best Picture? No question, it's not only the most expensive but the most popular movie for the year. It carries technology and film art to another level. Why didn't it win?

I first thought it was because motion picture academy voters tend not to respect animation or comouter generated images. (Many a time, the best picture ought to have been an animated flick, from Toy Story to Wal-E.)

But yesterday I got caught in the middle of heated comments about the dissin' of Avatar, and heard another rationale for what happened. It was the contrasting politics of "Hurt Locker" and "Avatar." The one "supported our troops"; the other did not, at all. This is why "Three Kings" got short shrift.
