Well, it's happened. With mixed regret and pleasure, I must announce that I have gone over to the darkside. Regret, because of infidelity to my #1 brand and love, Canon. Today, I got my first Nikon. Not new, 24-25 years old, but it feels so darn good to hold, to stroke, and to just look at. I am used to FTbs and A-1s and such, but this is in a different class. So I have spent the evening engaged in tactile eroticism with faux leather surfaces and painted copper/selenium/aluminum alloy.

Aren't red oaks supposed to have red leaves in autumn? These are the only ones in my hood that are red. Taken with Olympus 2 mp point & shoot digital. Copyright 2009 by The Refracted Image, etc., etc.

ok..I've been kinda hesitant to post my competition photos, but, I want to get ya'lls input..

I had a chance to do a couple shoots with the folks from the Gypsy Caravan performing arts troop..they are a very colorful crew and this photo I plan on entering in the "Genre" category of a photo/art competition I've been following for about a year.........the images were taken with a Nikon D series,3 point studio lights, and enhancements with CS4...I took about 2500 photos in 5 different shoots of three different gals, and unlike getting 2 outta ten usable pics with most models, virtually every one of the Gypsy photos are excellent...These will be my first entries in this comp...., it's an international competition with major sponsorship and top notch judges and I'm just a lil nervous about my entries..but when I look at my stuff up against others, well heck, maybe I have a chance.....

thanks for an objective opinion. I have several pics ready, ..here's one of em...

To respond seriously to Mr. C's invitation to comment, the pics look entirely professional and competent. I was turning through a copy of Click some days ago, and they would fit in fine.

Not that I am any sort of judge of the genre. I mostly go for stark, noirish or surreal images, like those of Tayfun Kocaman at http://www.fotografya.gen.tr/issue-13/t ... caman.html, or Life mag style photojournalism. Best of fortune, Mr. C.

Here's a pic I took on Saturday's walkabout. 2 megapixel Olympus p&s. Was shooting into sunny glare, and thought the camera would underexpose, so I aimed it at the pavement behind me and halfway depressed the shutter button. Turned out to be way over exposed, bleached out. Camera's meter would have done a lot better. But I like it. Effect is fairy-like, a look at a cold sunny world.
